Pearl

Pearl

To the oyster it’s a nuisance

to the starfish, it is worthless,

but to us, a pearl’s a treasure,

of which, some are deemed as priceless.

How does one establish worth,

of a person place or thing,

what inherent value

to the table do they bring?

What about a marriage

more specifically, a wife,

what makes her a treasure

more valuable than life.

The truth is, she is who she is,

priceless from the start,

but through each passing season

she grows more precious to his heart.

Yet she longs to see her beauty

reflected in his loving eyes,

for therein does the pearl

her own beauty realize.
